Museums in London

London is a city that’s rich in culture and heritage. This multiethnic city is been inhabited by people hailing from almost all the corners of the world. Its rich culture is a fine blend of contemporary and royal traditions from the past. Anyone can easily pander to the flexible lifestyle that London has to offer. There are many places for entertainment such as pubs, cafes, amusement parks, bars, restaurants, shopping malls, exhibitions and museums. There are more than 300 amazing museums and galleries in the city of London that absolutely demonstrates the true colors of the city’s blended culture and magnificent history. The Natural History Museum


It is one of the three largest museums in London. The Victoria and Albert Museum and the Science Museum are the others. The Natural History Museum constitutes about 70 million objects. This Museum is quite popular for its display of skeletons of dinosaur, Diplodocus cast in particular that is prominently placed at the entrance of the Museum. A collection of uncountable preserved specimens, new workspaces and interactive materials is held by the recently-developed centre- Darwin Centre. In the Darwin Centre, first phase stores the spirit collections of Zoological department. Archie the squid, which is 8 meter in length, is currently being displayed in a position that is prominent enough in the large specimen room. The museum will also hold the bones and the remains of the River Thames Whale that got lost on 20 January 2006 and entered in the Thames.


The British Museum



Founded in 1753, The British Museum, houses world-famous antiques collections from Western Asia, Egypt, Rome and Greece. There also is a collection of items from the Prehistoric and Romano-British, Renaissance, Medieval, Oriental and Modern collections, coins, drawings and paintings, banknotes and medals. The museum houses about six and a half million items varying in size from colossal statues to shreds. The collection has been maintained for both displays in exhibition and as a resource for research for some 30,000 enquiries from school children, tourists and professional academics each year. 5.4 hectares of land is covered by the museum. There are six main levels in the main building and a number of mezzanines. In total, there are 94 temporary and permanent exhibition galleries that exhibit the Museum objects covering 18,415 meters of land.


Guru Nanak Sikh Museum Leicester



Amongst the most interesting Museums, that can be visited during a visit to Leicester is the Guru Nanak Sikh Museum. Absolutely dedicated to the Sikh culture it is well preserved just the way other museums are in London, that explains why London is a home to various cultures all across the globe. It is exclusively meant for preserving the richness of one of the originating figures of Sikhism, and stores artifacts and literature from the biography of Guru Nanak. National Railway Museum
